House of Sand and Fog is a tale about a young American woman and an immigrant from Iran who find themselves fighting over a house they both believe they own. The movie is based on the best seller by Andre Dubus III.

It’s not just in Africa where people wage bitter wars over land. In this thought-provoking film, the land is small and the house ordinary but when it is put up for auction because of unpaid taxes, two Americans – one born and bred, one newly arrived from Iran – find themselves in the middle of a bitter property dispute.

For ex-drug addict Kathy, the house is all she has, her inheritance from her late father. As far as she’s concerned, the new owner is a thief. For proud Massoud, an Iranian immigrant, the house represents a new life for himself and his family. As far he’s concerned, he bought it legitimately. When a policeman sides with Kathy and starts harassing Massoud and his family, the house becomes a bitter battleground for two cultures.

House of Sand and Fog was nominated for three Oscars, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award.
