NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) has proudly announced that five of its funded projects, namely Drum (by Zola Maseko), Born into struggle (by Rehad Desai), U - Carmen eKhayelitsha (by Mark Dornford - May), Twist (by Tim Green), and Rifle Road (by Akin Omotoso) will be in the official programme at this year’s edition of Cannes. There will be a special spotlight on South African film as South Africa has been invited by the Cannes Film Festival to showcase films under a new initiative called All the Cinemas of the World. The spotlight will be on May 15 with screenings of South African films throughout the day. The NFVF in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) are the official hosts of the South African presence at the Cannes Film Festival 2005. The partnership between the NFVF and the IDC allows for South Africa to be an official partner in the producer’s network. This event is an exclusive opportunity for South African producers to network with high-ranking international producers from various countries around the world.
