NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The pre-eminent quiz show, Mastermind, that first aired in the 1970s, continues its new run on BBC Prime on DStv on Wednesdays at 19h05. Stepping into the shoes of the original quizmaster, Magnus Magnusson, is the notoriously tough political interviewer John Humphreys. Tough as he may be, however, when asked if he'd like to be a competitor on the show, he says 'I'd rather feed myself into a paper shredder', and says that he has great sympathy for brave participants in this classic high-level quiz show. Mastermind retains its original forbidding format; contestants are interrogated on a chosen subject, plus a general knowledge round, in the famous black chair, to compete for the grand title of Mastermind.
