M-Net will premier two new films in their New Directions slot on December 30.

These are Mozart: The Music of the Violin at 17h00 and The Vice Chancellor, the Chicken and the Mayor at 17h30.

Mozart: The Music of the Violin is the story of Vukani, a 12-year-old virtuoso, who finds himself trapped between his mother's endless persistence that he practices the violin and the taunts of township youths, who want to take his violin from him, as they believe Vukani thinks he is superior to them because of his talent. The story is a metaphor for a country that is grappling with its identity. It is the story of a new Black middle class trying to redefine itself in the ever changing terrain of belonging, of identification and of cultural shifts.

Mozart: The Music of the Violin was produced by Dumisani Dlamini, and written and directed by Mickey Madoda Dube.

This will be followed at 17h30 on the same day with The Vice Chancellor, the Chicken and the Mayor. This film is a humorous look at the dynamics of power and reconciliation in a small town in the New South Africa when a liberal white Vice-Chancellor's quest for a favour from a black Mayor becomes a voyage of self-discovery and personal liberation.

The Vice Chancellor, the Chicken and the Mayor was produced by Gavin Sweeney, written by Marion Whitehead, and directed by Didi Gcigca. This film concludes the New Directions lineup.
