NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. As South Africa celebrates a decade of democracy, the Shoprite Checkers/SABC 2 Women of the Year Award, South Africa’s foremost accolade for woman achievers in honour of National Women’s Day, is currently receiving nominations from all regions throughout South Africa. This prestigious accolade celebrating National Women’s Day honours nine outstanding women, accomplished in their own right but also successful in uplifting their communities. This year, for the first time in the history of the Award, nine women will share the Award title and each will receive R10,000 in prize money. The nine categories of the Award are (newly introduced) social services, as well as arts & culture, business entrepreneurs, community affairs, science & technology, education, health, media & communications and sport. Those wishing to nominate outstanding achievers have just over three months to submit their nominations. The closing date is May 21, 2004. Nomination forms are available from Shoprite or Checkers stores, via the Internet at www.sawoman.co.za or by contacting the organisers at (011) 465 5225, or by e-mailing sawoman@calibro.co.za
