For those who like to add chill to late winter nights, Monday Night Crime on BBC Prime on the DStv pay channel has much to offer with a season of dramas from superb crime writer Minette Walters.

The Scold’s Bridle is a psychological thriller with a cast that includes Miranda Richardson, Trudie Styler and Bob Peck. A woman’s body is found two days after she took an overdose and slashed her wrists. What shocks the local doctor is not her injuries but the fact that her face is covered by a scold’s bridle – a gruesome medieval instrument of torture. Watch the Dish DStv guide for times, etc.

The gripping series is broadcast every Monday from September 8 at 21h00.
