NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. CLASSICFEEL magazine’s steady growth has prompted the need for wider distribution networks. Apart from Exclusive Books and independent bookshops in the metropolitan areas, the magazine is now available at CNA and Spar outlets nationwide in order to access a greater number of dedicated consumers. This growth is accompanied by a wider content focus centred on quality. While maintaining a specialist focus on classical music, CLASSICFEEL offers the best in visual art, jazz music, film and theatre, as well as food and travel, to an affluent, intelligent readership. The March issue features Johannesburg and Cape Town as twin South African creative poles. Exploring Johannesburg as it flourishes as an African art capital, CLASSICFEEL looks at the upcoming Joburg Art Fair, giving its discerning readers a glimpse of what is on offer. This is accompanied by an in-depth interview with internationally acclaimed artist, Marlene Dumas, about her homing exhibition entitled Intimate Relations. CLASSICFEEL also features the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, giving readers an enticing look at the some of the great acts of the festival. This is complemented by a piece on ‘timeless classic’ Sergio Mendes, who headlines this year’s festival. The magazine continues to bring its dedicated readers the best in classical music, with an exclusive interview with the talented Welsh opera star, Katherine Jenkins. This is accompanied by a feature on Turkish conductor Cem Mansur and another on the vibrant Soweto Opera Quadro. The move into retailers across the country is only one indication of CLASSICFEEL magazine’s successful transition to a consumer publication. With an increase in content, extent and print run, it only remains to see where the magazine will go next.
