On October 21 at 22h50, M-Net will screen the comedy drama Weather Man directed by Gore Verbinksi and starring Nicolas Cage, Michael Caine, Hope Davis and Gemmenne de la Pena.

The movie is an offbeat character piece about a Chicago weatherman whose personal life is in crisis while his professional life is soaring. Dave Spritz, a weatherman working for a Chicago TV station, is being buffeted about by life’s storms. His ex-wife still bears a grudge against him, his two teenage kids – a son who spent time in rehab for drugs and an overweight daughter with self-esteem issues – don’t like him, and his Pulitzer Prize-winning writer father treats him with disdain. The only thing he’s good at is his job, although even that is questionable as “fans” throw food at him wherever he goes.

However, there is a silver lining to his dark cloud: a New York TV station has shown interest in him. Could sunny days be just around the corner? This wry contemplation of a flawed, complex character may not suit all viewers – it could be construed as grim, even dark – but it perfectly suits Nicolas Cage’s melancholy style.
