Bram Fischer: New Directions directed by Sharon Farr is a once-off documentary to be screened by M-Net on September 27 at 22h45.

Set against the backdrop of the struggle against apartheid, Fischer’s life has epic elements – born into Afrikaner aristocracy and primed to lead the vlok one day, Fischer turned his back on a life of privilege to embrace Communism and become one of the leading underground revolutionaries set on overthrowing the apartheid government in a struggle for a non-racial South Africa.

Interweaving the political and the personal, the documentary explores who Bram Fischer was in terms of his experience of and influence on the course of South Africa’s political history.
