NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Feel the rhythm, and warm up those winter blues, as The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway takes you on a journey of the sultry sounds of Latin America with Rhythm Of The Night which offers a wild tour through the music of Latino legends. The show presents the sounds of Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, The Gypsy Kings, Ritchie Valens and many more. It takes audiences from the Copacabana where music and passion is always the fashion, to dancing the Conga with Gloria Estefan, to the fun inspired Macarena and The Ketchup Song. Rhythm Of The Night will rock you like there is no tomorrow with the powerhouse sounds of Santana’s Well Alright, Smooth and She’s Not There. Rhythm Of The Night is very clearly all about the rhythm, and features some of the most impressive dance routines on any Barnyard Theatre stage. Featuring a powerful and energetic 10-piece cast, the show portrays the sexiness of Ricky Martin with hits like Living La Vida Loco and Shake your Bon Bon, and Enrique Iglesias with Hero and Bailamos and the raunchiness of Shakira with Hips don’t lie and Objection Tango. The show will be led by Clinton Philander who will be on lead vocals and narrating. He will be joined by JP Moggee, Lyle Volkwyn and Leyla Somnez on vocals, with the band consisting of Calli Thomson on keyboards, Adrian Beecham on guitar and vocals, Fresh Monanyane on bass guitar, Colin Heaney on drums, Colin Mairs on saxophone, Michael Magner on trumpet and Mark Whittaker on percussion. Rhythm Of The Night runs until July 13. Tickets R100 pp from Wednesday to Saturday, with discounted specials of R65 per person every Tuesday night and Sunday matinee show. For bookings and enquiries, phone The Barnyard Theatre on 031 566 3045, e-mail gateway@barnyardtheatres.co.za or visit www.barnyardtheatres.co.za
