NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The popular Upper Deck supper theatre venue at Ushaka Marine World’s Phantom Ship continues providing world class entertainment with a nostalgic tribute to boys bands titled Let’s Hear It For The Boys. The show charts a journey from the first boys’ band in the 60’s (The Beatles) till the new and popular groups of the new millennium including Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Il Divo, Teatro, and even South Africa’s well-known Eden. The stars include Jonothan Didlick returning from his latest performance at the Barnyard in Johannesburg; Lyle Buxton who is best known as one of the leads in Guys ‘n Dolls at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre; Cavin Sewell who has just returned from appearing on the Melody cruise ship, and Bradley Marshall who appeared in the Phantom Ship’s Tainted Love as well as Luther Vandross – The Tribute. Also featured will be solo performances by artists who have left their boys bands to go on and make a success of a solo career such as Ronan Keating and Robbie Williams. With backing by the top-notch five-piece uShaka Marine World Band, the Boys’ Band Tribute promises a night not to be missed. The show will include hit numbers such as I Want it That Way, Bye,Bye,Bye, No Matter What, When you say nothing at all, I’ll make love to you/End of the road, Flying without wings and many more. Let’s Hear It For The Boys runs from September 4 to October 5. It is produced by Wayne Scott and directed by Charon Williams-Ros, a formidable team which has created the last few sensational hits on the Upper Deck (Diva’s on Deck, Motown on Deck, Feelin’ Good – A Tribute to Swing and Tainted Love – A Tribute to the 80’s). Book at Computicket or phone 031 328 8000.
