The UKZN School of Music will present the Mbonge Mbonge Spectacle Big Waves, choreographed by award wining Jackson Mamengi Kumesu, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Big Waves is directed by Dr Patricia Achieng Opondo who is director of the African Music Project, UKZN.

The production follows the story of a young girl Bokamba who falls in love with an archer, but the problem is that she is already engaged and has a jealous fiancé who sees the courtship brewing. This then provokes a fight between Bokamba's village and that of the archer. Will the two feuding villages eventually find peace?

The show will be performed by the University of KwaZulu-Natal African Music Ensemble, a student ensemble featuring African Music and Dance Students, and international exchange students from the United States.

This production of indigenous African music and dance presented in vibrant costumes will whet audiences’ appetite for the forthcoming African Music and Dance Showcase Extravaganza at the end of August.
