In 1964 Eddie Eckstein, Paul Ditchfield, Pete Clifford and the late Barry Barman burst on to the scene as The Bats - South Africa’s answer to The Beatles - touring nationally and internationally with their brilliant music and comedy show.

The band achieved a Sarie song-of-the-year Award in the early 70’s for Who’s That Girl? and Paul’s composition Oh God It’s Beautiful was chosen to represent South Africa at the Tokyo World Song Festival – performed there by Paul and Eddie.

The band stayed at the top for a record 16 years achieving many hit singles and long playing vinyls. In 1980 they decided to pursue solo careers but some 21 years later, joined by Derek Gordon and with talents finely honed, the band re-grouped for a short ‘come-back’.

Their ‘come-back’ is still on-going, delighting audiences young and old, and with a brand new CD on the market – the sales of which prove The Bats are still on track and on top!
