NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. A musical written and directed by Khaya Ngema is to be staged at The Mansfield Hall on the Berea Campus of the Durban Institute of Technology (formerly Technikon Natal) from December 6 to 7. Titled Kwel’Dumayo, it is described as a musical of crime, violence, alcoholism and love. Set in Umkhumbane after the elections in 1994, it uses powerful dialogue, narration and dance to tell the tale of the mother of two teenagers whose husband was murdered in front of her and her children. In order to support her family, she goes away to work but things at home go from bad to worse as one youngster becomes involved with crime and the other faces divided loyalties in her decision to report him to the police. Shows daily at 14h00 and 17h00. Tickets R10. Book through 073 268 634.
