African Bank stepped firmly into the national arts arena last night with the announcement of a R3-million endowment to The Market Theatre, the first of three such annual grants. The bank's patronage gives The Market a breathing space to construct a cogent three-year business plan and break with the ad hoc, production-to-production regime that has of necessity characterised its running in recent years.
