Since the first edition of The South African Handbook on Arts and Culture published by Article 27 in 1998, there have been dramatic and far-reaching developments in the arts and culture sphere. Yet, one area that is still lacking is that of readily available arts and culture publications and resource books.

In response to numerous requests from both international and South African arts practitioners, agencies and organisations, an updated edition of The South African Handbook on Arts and Culture is currently being researched with the aid of the Swedish International Development Authority.
