In accordance with the SABC’s commitment to radio drama, Lotus FM has been producing radio series for the last couple of years – a fascinating process for a whole new generation of radio actors who are discovering this exciting medium which generated millions of listeners in the days of the late-lamented Springbok Radio.

The plight of the poor and needy in Durban’s community is a focus of attention for Lotusfm. The station recently launched its annual national Winter Drive Campaign in order to raise funds and collect food and clothing for the thousands of less privileged, during the winter months.

“We are appealing to the community, business and the corporate sector to play a role in our campaign,” says acting station manager, Gail Samuels. “As a national broadcaster and a community-oriented radio station, we want to make a difference to the plight which pervades our communities nationwide. Through ‘the power of radio’ we hope to make a tangible difference to their lives.”

Listeners countrywide are being encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, food hampers, clothing in good condition and blankets towards the campaign; all items can be dropped off at any Red Cross branch countrywide or at the SABC offices in KwaZulu-Natal. You can also contribute cash by sending a sms with the word ‘winter’ to 38722. R10 per sms will be donated to charity.
