The Durban public is warmly invited to attend a public address by New Orleans Mayor, Ray Nagin, about his city’s experiences surviving Hurricane Katrina. The event forms part of an official visit to Durban by the mayor of New Orleans and his civic entourage. The event will interest people involved in disaster management; community liaison; media-relations; arts and culture; town planning and development. Mayor Ray Nagin – the mayor of Durban’s sister city New Orleans - will be coming to South African on an official visit, stopping off in Durban from June 8 to 10. Elected in 2002, Mayor Nagin was the mayor of New Orleans at the time of the devastating Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was instrumental in overseeing disaster relief work, maintaining public morale and managing the daunting task of rebuilding the city after the disaster. Mayor Nagin’s address will take place in the Durban City Hall on June 10 at 11h30.
