NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Young People for Change (YPC), a newly found Community Organisation supported by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation is a project that - through performing arts - addresses the problem of HIV/AIDS in the township of Kwa Mashu. The organization is holding monthly HIV/AIDS Community Open Days through live performances of music, dance, drama and poetry. The first Open Day takes place at Nkanyisweni Hall in F-Section – Kwa Mashu on February 22. These events result from the six months HIV/AIDS and life skills training programme which involved about 120 youngsters from different sections of the township. This endeavour is intended to empower the youth towards effecting a positive change amongst their peers in the township and will culminate into a big community festival on Youth Day, June 16. The theme for this campaign is Lighten up for Positive Change. The show is free of charge and starts at 10h00 at Nkanyisweni Hall. More details from co-ordinator Sthe Khumalo on 031 304 0586 or 083 691 6962.
