NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. Andrew Pender-Smith is one of Durban’s most active local authors. His poetry is widely read in anthologies and is popular among young people performing in the Speech and Drama festivals. Andrew has also turned his hand to writing fiction for young people and three books are to be published soon. Many years in the making, they are stories with local colour and narratives that will engage young and old. Entitled Dream Me a River, Hunting Zanga and Slurp, – the last with lively illustrations by Gill Nicholson – they are likely to become favourites for those looking for exciting and imaginative reads. The new books will be launched shortly by Umsinsi Press and Adams Booksellers.
