The effects of the earthquake and the resulting tsunamis that have wreaked destruction and death on the small Asian islands in its path, i.e. Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, the Maldives, Malaysia, east coast of India have shocked millions around the world.

At the time of emailing, the death toll stands at 68,000 and rising. Those who have lost their homes and possessions are numbered around a million. It is estimated that it will cost in the region of a billion dollars to rebuild homes, businesses and community services which will take many months to complete.
