NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. I was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, leaving after my studies at the University of Natal. For this reason I chose to kick off the national tour of my latest show, Uncut-The Penis Monologues at the Hexagon complex. The thought of returning on a professional basis to my hometown after an absence of 15 years was exciting, but nerve-wracking. What a pleasant surprise to receive such a warm reception here in response to my production. It was heartwarming to play to people who arrive at the theatre on time, applaud and laugh loudly, and generally make ‘walking the boards’ a great experience. I thank the theatergoers of PMB as well as Peter Mitchell for the expert manner in which he runs the Hexagon Theatre. I now plan to premiere my next one-man show, Guru (a send-up of the New Age movement) at the Hexagon early next year, rather than at a Durban venue. Clinton Marius, Musgrave, Durban
