NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. I, too, was among those taken aback at the disturbing nature of Ms Angelique's review of Guys and Dolls. It was so unnecessarily spitting with venom, so negative from the word go, one wonders if Ms A had an axe to grind with someone in or involved with the show. Perhaps she was a failed artist of sorts before her 15 minutes as a writer - one would guess so from her rowdy, contradictive, damaging rant? While Guys and Dolls has flaws and is not among the greatest shows I have seen locally, it is undeniably enjoyable, has a lot of plusses and is an effort for which new producer Bradley Marshall needs to be congratulated - and encouraged. Other reviewers in the city have been able to give fair and balanced reviews, why not the Tribune? Ms A's review smacks of look-how-wise-and-witty-and-clever I am. In reality, the poor thing is none of those. Durban's theatre scene could do without her, Mr Tribune Editor! Anne Grace: Durban Theatre Fan
