The University Film Club in Pietermaritzburg is back to Thursday on August 25 with its classic movies programme and the screening of Wim Wenders' Der Amerikanische Freund/The American Friend (1977).

There have been recent adaptations of Patricia Highsmith's Ripley novels but Wenders' moody thriller is still widely considered to be the best with Dennis Hopper as Highsmith's fascinating sociopath, Tom Ripley.

Films are shown in the Centre for Visual Arts Lecture Theatre in Ridge Road, Pietermaritzburg, at 18h00 and there is safe parking.
