Clint Eastwood’s examination of heroism and sacrifice as seen through the eyes of three American WW2 soldiers who were thrust into the national spotlight., Flags of our Fathers, can be seen on M-Net on June 9 at 20h30. Directed by Clint Eastwood in 2006, it stars Clint Eastwood. Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, Paul Walker and Barry Pepper. World War Two is just about over but there’s still the Japanese island of Iwo Jima to conquer if the Allieds are to take control of the Pacific. One fierce battle later, five Marines and a Navy man hoist the American flag on the island’s highest point – a moment captured by an AP photographer. Back home, the picture raises morale and gives politicians an idea. Within weeks, three soldiers are plucked from the frontlines and brought back to America to raise funds for war bonds. As they travel the country, the flag-raisers are affected in far-reaching ways.
