NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. On MNet on June 7 at 22h00, Quick and the Dead is a stylish witty parody of the spaghetti western directed by Sam Raimi and starring Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman In this stylish, witty parody of the spaghetti western, some of Hollywood's most recognisable faces don guns and cowboy gear to play gunfighters in America's Wild West. Sharon Stone takes on the Clint Eastwood role, riding into the town of Redemption with a frown between her eyes and a lit cigar between her lips. When she asks for a room in the local saloon, she is told, "Whores next door." Not a thing to say to a lady carrying a gun. Soon the Woman With No Name is rubbing shoulders, and other bits, with handsome gunslingers, and preparing for a quick-draw contest that will net the last man (or woman) standing a small fortune. But money is not what's driving this lady - she's here for revenge, and the man she's after is the mayor, a mean fellow called John Herod, who rules Redemption with an iron fist.
