NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. On May 22, the Pietermaritzburg-based University film club is showing Andrei Rublev, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky (1966), the final film for this semester. It is a long film, with an interval for wine and snacks. Dark, sensual, magical, mysterious, powerful – all words used to describe Tarkovsky’s epic recreation of 15th century Russia, seen through the eyes of a monk who was to become a master-painter of icons, Andrei Rublev. Membership: R100 for entry into all films shown this semester; individual viewings: R15 (R10 students). Films are shown in the CVA lecture theatre in Ridge Road at 18h00.
