NB: as of 23 September 2008, all new artSMart articles are being published on the site news.artsmart.co.za. The all-singing, all-dancing Bollywood-style musical extravaganza The Merchants of Bollywood has already been hailed as a spectacular success by audiences and critics in Australia and Europe. It is now in Durban for a short season. The Merchants of Bollywood is a dynamic, vibrant and energetic spectacle of colour and culture, based on the real-life story of the show’s choreographer. The story is a potent mixture of dreams and sacrifices, family rebellion and romance, and is set to some of the most memorable songs and music from Bollywood films. This is the first authentic musical from Bollywood city and not only charts the captivating history of the world’s largest and most prolific film industry but pays tribute to the dynasty of stars that have lit its way over generations. It features a cast of 40 dancers, singers and actors direct from Film City Mumbai. Performances will take place at the Indoor Arena of the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban on May 19 and 20 (with a matinee shows on both days). Two extra performances – May 21 and 22 – have been included to cover the major public demand. Book at Computicket.
